Written  vs Practical

Unit 8 today and its all work and no play which is good because I actually came out of it with a much better understanding of what I will be writing for my essay. last week I got ideas and I learnt what to do so I wrote up a draft of 400 words that I showed Sarah. with this as a base she told me what I didn't to cut, what I could keep and most importantly what I could add.

She also helped find me quotes most if not all i didn't realise where quotes or i could use them  so that was great and she helped me narrow down what I will be focusing my essay on and that would be 3 companies that specialise or use technology in theatre. for this 1000 word essay draft however i will look at only two companies.

Once all the talking and tutorials were over, playtime began, and by playtime I mean recording time. since we need to create a juxtaposition short film or performance for tomorrow I worked with my fellow classmate Robbie on an idea he thought of. it wasn't really an amazing idea and I didn't personally think it had juxtaposition in it but it was fun non the less to film. there was a debate however as Robbie wanted a 2 cut take, while I was all about multiple takes with different angles that I could edit together later and create something cinematic and film like. so in the end we recorded both, as you do.

The only thing left to do for today is edit the vids and work on my essay changes. Plus of course blog this to all my peeps ;)

Last Days of Transmedia

Prepare for the arrival of ‘The Hood Factor’

Our ideas from Wednesday about the rap and debate became something of an X Factor parody. The issues were still there but a lot of it was cut for time, like my rap was shorted to a couple of lines and the chorus. It was interesting thought since the change made the video more interesting to what and it was funny and sort of insightful as well. It could have used a lot of polish but I was happy with what we created :)

To video the video here is the link

I wish I had a change to edit the footage though since there were a lot of bits in the video that lacked the polish which I know I could have helped sort out but I think Ryan did an excellent job with the little time we had.

Besides from recording the video we had to set up our artwork which the gorgeous Carmen came up with. A mannequin with pictures of the old and young with the lost generation in the middle in black and white (the sort of gap if you will) I liked the idea and it was visually interesting than having a standard poster, I’m proud of her. it brought a new dimension to our piece.

A long wait until Showtime

The last day of a long week finally comes to a close. With the artwork done and the videos on YouTube everything was in place. The only thing left to do was prepare the space for our Transmedia experience and perform.

There wasn’t much in the way of talking because we thought it would be better to remain quiet throughout the performance but we could speak if spoken to. For me it was hard to see how everything went because Carmen and I were next to our artwork the whole time but the little glimpses I did it looked like everyone was having fun. The apps took a while to load though so it was a somewhat sluggish performance but it was interesting and something new to be a part of.

After the performance we got in a circle for feedback and questioning. We were all still in character but towards the end things got a bit silly with strange names and jokes being thrown out and a few of use couldn’t keep in the laughter. A lot of good questions came up like why were we all grumpy? I can speak from my character because after all I wasn’t actually myself I was ‘Treacle the rapper’. So I visualised him being bummed out over the controversy from ‘The Hood Factor’ and all the press he has been getting over wearing a hoody and being labelled. It was quite fun to remain in character even when being told to twirl (which treacle doesn’t) and other things. I only broke out of character once and that was because Ria’s laugh was contagious lol. But I was happy I kept it together even till the end with the claps.
It has been a great experience working with mark ashmore and learning about Transmedia has been fun. Despite me being somewhat of a tech geek I’m not entirely hooked on this style of theatre just yet. But it’s interesting to see how technology and mobiles can be used to create something different and unique. Plus learning about SCVNGR was cool (although i couldn’t find the app) All in all it’s been a fun week.

Now next week unit 6 presentation! :( And unit 8 essay!! Double :(

Lost Generation (Rap Lyrics)

Why are we the ones you fear the most?
When our hoodies are up do we look like ghosts?
A corrupted youth you all might say
But are reply is no fricking way!

We are the lost generation
So misunderstood
We are the lost generation
So misunderstood

Get your head the papers, they spread the lies
When a single youth acts up the whole world cries
“Yobs are to blame, there at it again”
You think each and every one of us, act the same!

We are the lost generation
So misunderstood
We are the lost generation
So misunderstood

We don’t count for someone else’s actions
Don’t blame us for the retaliations

The Start of Transmedia

Today was my first lesson with Transmedia teacher Mark Ashmore and it was an interesting one at that. Learning about how Transmedia is used and how it has evolved to this point and onward was interesting. It also was the start of a loving relationship with twitter. opening a new account of windows live messenger and creating a hopefully professional twitter account i can use to network and generally have fun.

@Tyrone_Horner if anyone wants to follow me ;)

Today was your basic day that introduced what we will be doing for Transmedia. I liked the use of twitter to gather all the information we was talking about so it was easier to search and look at, at a later time, it was simpler and a different approach to taking notes. I was still somewhat confused by Transmedia and it even questioned my own choice in my essay for unit 8. but I feel at the end of the week I’ll be so overloaded with Transmedia knowledge I’ll drowned in the sea of information.

Unit H8 Becomes Clear

Tuesday was interesting because I never really got my choice for the unit 8 essay which was basically t write about the evolution of technology in theatre but after a loving talk with Sarah and the fabulous Vanessa lending me a big old book which I think will end my life early. I now have something to source my essay on and better understand what I should write about... I’m still in the dark somewhat though but baby steps.
But if you don’t hear from me in a week’s time I’m probably being tortured by Vanessa’s book!

What a Rap Day

What can I say about today, it was very interesting? I joke, it was actually quite fun. We got in our groups of four and worked out what to do for our short video recordings. I quite liked that we actually got up and recorded stuff on Ryan’s laptop than sit around discussing ideas because that can get a bit boring and I think the best ideas come from improvisation. There is one think I got myself into though which (although was fun and challenging) was very scary and nerve racking for me.

And that was rapping!

For some reason I decided to write a rap which everyone in my group wanted to me do. I do remember thinking I’ll write a rap or song about the lost generation for myself (because I write songs all the time) but I never expected to be forced to perform it. I’m not really a rapper, I’m more of a singer although like I said last week my voice isn’t amazing and I’m nervous using my voice. But rapping in my mind is like saying words with a beat and playing a character with a bit of attitude. So, I did the rap in the end.

The good thing that came from the rap was we had a stimulus to work off and since we’re hoodies we could maybe debate the effects of the hoodie or the style choice I was making.

The Days Before The Creation of The Blog (Uni Lessons Are Go!)

Wednesday 5th October
A Lesson in CV

A lesson at Uni today consisted of showing my CV to Lisa Holloway to get feedback which could then help me tweak and perfect this naughty bad boy
I also learnt that networking is a good thing for actors because the more you know and the more you’re out there, the bigger chance someone will recommend you for things. Another benefit to networking is you can become friends with people you would come across and you could potentially ask that person to be a reference for you.
Maybe even ask for a cheeky favour ;)
During this class it came clear that I need to update my email into a professional one or even one that actually has my name in it. She also said that twitter is a good place to network. So, it’s time to create a twitter account it seems.
I learnt a lot in one day :D

The Day Off to Slowly Start It All

Using this free time that the lovely Vanessa Cornford gave me, I looked hard into how to create blogs and websites. But I thought you know what? I’m gonna use this time to work on notes from yesterday’s lesson and what I could potentially add to this blog or website when I’ve chosen which one I’m thinking of creating.
It ended up being a blog obviously
I also thought what if I wanna create an eBook? So in preparation for next week’s lesson where we will be taught how to create such eBooks, I thought today is a day to relax, help my landlady move some stuff and write my daily progress on Microsoft word until I can transfer them over to my chosen electronical media of choice.

Which explains why I’m blogging all this, a week late.

Friday 7th October
Back to Break a Sweat

Today I had to learn out to breathe through the diagram but hang on a minute i already do that naturally since forever... moving on.
Breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth I needed to place that inhaled air into the back of my spine where at this point in the lesson I had my hand placed. This was easy but not at first, it felt like I couldn’t feel the crushing sensation.
In case you’re somewhat confused I was lying on my back with my hand on my back
How that we got that cleared up I started feeling the pressure when I either breathed in more quickly or focused the breath more downward into my lower diagram.
There were a lot of different activities we tried out but there is one that I will be haunted by. Although it was somewhat fun towards the end (because it was finishing, I joke) but i was so nervous doing it i had a brain freeze. The idea of moving from a dramatic pose, to a jump and lying down with movement’s in-between was a piece of cake but to add a song? That had to be song out loud?? In front of everyone??? The stress and the panic kicked in!

I couldn’t think of a song!
I didn’t know any lyrics!
I wasn’t loud enough!

This all tied into a frenzy but luckily we wasn’t actually doing this one by one it was in a group of 5 or 6 so I slowly calmed myself down, just a little.
I love singing to some extent because I write songs and always sing but I’m the sort of person that wouldn’t sing aloud and knows my voice isn’t all that, I’m not bad but I’m no Leona Lewis. Anyway to cut a long story short if it wasn’t for the help of me pal Taz I wouldn’t of gave it a good old confident go, so I’m proud of myself for at least trying.
The discovery I made in this activity is that I need to build my confidence when it comes to using my voice since I rely on my physicality a bit too much.

Now this is where the title of this day really kicks into gear.
Body workshop or as some might call it hell! A two and a half hour body workout that includes a combination of yoga, tai chi and aerobics, that is fun (especially for me) but exhausting near the end. Now I’m an actor and even though it’s good to keep fit and be in shape, we all are like novices when it comes to working out. So much so that I think it should be a weekly thing.
There was a little variation this week in body though since we had to move across the space from chair to chair using different styles of movement and paces, the only different or difficult thing was you had to keep a eye out for everyone and follow them so everyone is being consistent throughout.
The exercise turned into a mini performance which I think turned out ok but there was a lot of planning and not enough doing going on, so it wasn’t rehearsed enough and looked improvised. But I’d give a solid B for effort :)

Now that class was over, something has begun. Film making!! But I’ll elaborate on this in a latter post ;)

A Starting Celebration

A start of a new chapter on the world wide web!
but what magical information will I bring?
maybe daily briefs of my everyday life? (if its interesting)
maybe uni news and what went down (inside gossip!)
or maybe I will continuously blog a whole load of nonsense!!

so lets get this blog started
